Fabric Dinner Napkin (Cost Plus World Market)
Napkin Ring (Cost Plus World Market)
Liquid Fusion Clear Urethane Glue

Step One

Cut a piece of fabric large enough to cover the mounting board that's provided with each paperweight kit.  Remove the protective liner to expose the mounting board's adhesive side and press the fabric into place.

To cut the fabric that overlaps the mounting board, you will need to use a pair of sharp fabric scissors to prevent pulling and fraying.

The fabric will act as a background on which to apply your decorative pieces.

Step Two

The pieces we used to create this paperweight were tied to a napkin ring with wire.  We simply deconstructed the napkin ring.

Removing decorative pieces from existing objects is often less expensive than purchasing these items separately.  Shops that carry affordably priced jewelry and accessories are a great resource.

Step Three

We glued the mother of pearl flowers to the fabric using Liquid Fusion clear urethane glue (duncancrafts.com).  Any glue you use should be compatible with the materials you are working with.

To cover the hole located in the center of each flower, we used the faceted crystals from the napkin ring.

Step Four

After the glue has completely dried, place the decorative side of the mounting board into the recessed area on the bottom of the paperweight and apply the bottom pad to finish.
