Quotable Paperweight

Whenever I go to flea markets and tag sales, I'm always on the lookout for small, interesting curiosities.  Many years ago I purchased a pressed design of three horses in brass.  I have no idea what it was made for.  I just fell in love with it, and knew I'd be able to incorporate it into a project one day.

This design is very easy to duplicate.  All you'll need is an ink jet printer, some decorative paper, a small trinket (such as the brass horses), and hot melt glue.  You'll also need a favorite quote, poem, or personal sentiment.

Hint: Pressed flowers are excellent for this project!

Text and Fonts

Your text may be typed in Word, Publisher, or a varity of other programs.  This step is easy.  The hardest part is choosing just the right font.  If you'd like to add some new fonts to your PC or Mac, I recommend urbanfonts.com.  They have hundreds of fonts available.  Best of all, they're absolutely free.

In order to add interest and dimension to your design, print your quote or poem on paper that has a slight texture.  I used a piece of leftover scrapbooking paper in the example.  The texture can't be too severe because it may result in voids during the printing process.  In addition, laser printers cannot be used to print on textured paper because the toner will not bond properly, making it easy to smudge and flake.

After your design has printed, adhere it to the mounting board that comes with each of our paperweight kits and trim any overlapping paper.  You can then apply your decorative element with hot melt glue.  (You may want to choose an alternate type of glue if you're working with plastics or other heat-sensitive materials.)

Finding the Right Words

In order to find a quote for this project, I did a simple internet search for horse quotes.  This is a great way to match your item with a quote or poem it will best compliment.
