April's Paperweight Project
An Affinity for Purses
Among my favorite things to use in my paperweight designs are scrapbooking embellishments. The number of styles available seems limitless and range from the simplest stickers to dimensional decorations adorned with beads and faceted jewels.
During a recent visit to my local craft store, I came across a collection of K&Company embellishments that I immediately fell in love with. The collection, Sola Purses, was designed by Amy Butler and includes seven adorable purses and four vintage style accessories. Most of the pieces feature rhinestones.
One package of embellishments sells for around $3.99 and will allow you to create seven purse paperweights to share with friends. They'd also make great favors for a spring party.
Paperweight Style: Round To create the round paperweight, I started with a pearlescent background paper (The Paper Company, Cool Metallics Cover in Ice Blue). I then centered and applied one of the purse embellishments to the background.
Paperweight Style: Heirloom Rectangle For the Heirloom Rectangle paperweight, I used a darker, pearlescent background paper (The Paper Company, Cool Metallics Cover in Seaglass) and added three of the smaller pieces in the Sola Purses collection.
Important Note: These embellishments are dimensional. Therefore, you will need to choose a paperweight style with at least a 3/16" recess.
