PhotoWeights... Inspired by the Past
As an antique collector, Susan Eastin developed a love for glass paperweights that showcase early photographs of country churches, streets lined with horse-drawn carriages, and ordinary men and women going about their daily routine. These unique pieces offer a rare glimpse into a moment in time that was important enough for someone to preserve under glass nearly a century ago.
The photo paperweights of the past kindled Susan's interest in creating modern paperweights that blended vintage and contemporary elements that went beyond photographs to include trinkets, textiles, costume jewelry, and other embellishments. They became an instant success at the local antique shop where they were sold. Soon, everyone wanted to know how they could create their own designs.
In 2002, Susan launched PhotoWeights®, a line of heirloom paperweight kits that has helped re-introduce this once-forgotten art form to a new generation of crafters and artists. Since their introduction, PhotoWeights have gained a strong following with public and commercial clients, including professional artists and photographers who transform the company's paperweights into beautiful, unique giftware that may be found in specialty shops, museum stores, and boutiques throughout the country.
A Personal Note From Susan
I'd like to personally thank everyone who has supported PhotoWeights throughout the years. Without you, we certainly would not be enjoying our seventh year in business. Each of you makes it possible for me to inspire others to create art, preserve memories, and craft beautiful, handmade gifts. I'm incredibly grateful to be doing something I absolutely love.
