Background
As an antique collector, I developed a love for glass paperweights that showcase early photographs of country churches, streets lined with horse drawn carriages, and ordinary men and women going about their daily routine. These unique pieces offer a rare glimpse into a moment in time that was important enough for someone to preserve under glass.
The photo paperweights of the past kindled my interest in creating modern, personalized paperweights of my own. Rather than limiting the designs to photographs, I incorporated an array of other materials such as scrapbooking embellishments, pieces of costume jewelry, pressed flowers, vintage wallpaper, antique postcards, and other interesting finds. I sold them at a local antique shop where they quickly became popular items.
Carving Out a Niche
When I first started to design and decorate paperweights a decade ago, finding the right glassware and materials for my paperweight designs was nearly impossible. Most of the paperweights I came across were unattractive and cheaply made. I was also spending a great deal of time cutting pieces of board and adhesive backing by hand. I wanted to develop a line of paperweight kits that were beautiful, functional, and easy to use. Voila! PhotoWeights were born.
Since PhotoWeights were introduced more than five years ago, we've become the top supplier of paperweight kits to professional artists, photographers, and crafters who use our products to create beautiful home and office accessories that may be found in specialty shops and boutiques throughout the country.
Hurrahs, Plaudits, and Raves
PhotoWeights' line of paperweights have been featured on The Martha Stewart Show, The Carol Duvall Show, and in magazines such as In Style Weddings, Somerset Home, Family Circle, and Better Homes and Gardens. Museum Store Magazine awarded PhotoWeights the accolade, "must have merchandise."
